«Ley» es el porcentaje de material útil en la roca. Una mina de cobre con una ley del 0,5 % descarta 199 toneladas de roca por cada tonelada de cobre que vende. Ese único número determina si un yacimiento es una mina o simplemente una pieza de geología interesante.
