What we collect

There are no accounts on this site and no login. We do not ask for your name, and we do not track you across other websites. Standard web-server logs record the request, the time, the page and a truncated address for security and abuse prevention.

What is stored in your browser, not by us

Three preferences are kept in your own browser's local storage and never sent to us: your ★ saved list, your light/dark theme, your Guided or Expert view, and your chosen reading depth. Language choice is stored in a cookie so pages render in the same language on the next visit. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.

What you choose to send us

If you use the contact form, the message and any email address you supply are stored so we can reply. If you subscribe to updates, your email address is stored for that purpose only. Neither is sold, rented or shared, and you can ask us to delete either at any time via the contact page.

Questions sent to Ask the Data

A question you type into Ask the Data is sent to a third-party language-model provider along with an extract of this site's own data, so it can be answered. Do not put personal or confidential information into it.

Advertising and cookies

This site may display advertising supplied by Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites. Images and external content

Photographs are served from this site's own servers, not hot-linked, so viewing a page does not report you to an image host. News thumbnails, where a publisher provides one, are loaded from the publisher with a no-referrer policy. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to us through the contact page.
