Bu nedir?
A dense, pale hardwood whose closed cell structure makes it watertight - which is why barrels are made of it and almost nothing else.
Neden önemli?
White oak is the one hardwood with two large buyers competing for the same best logs: flooring and joinery on one side, and the barrel trade on the other, which needs straight, slow-grown, defect-free wood and will pay for it. That competition sets the price of the top grades.
Where it grows
The eastern United States, plus European white oaks in France and central Europe cut for the same uses. What it is used for
Tight barrels for wine and spirits, flooring, furniture, joinery, boat building, exterior millwork. What to watch
The tyloses that block its pores are what make it hold liquid; red oak lacks them and cannot be used for barrels at all.Ne için kullanılır
